Are You Experiencing The Grace Of God?
Usually we hear grace defined as the undeserved, unmerited favor of God. Tullian Tchividjian, the grandson of Billy Graham, describes grace as one way love. I like that. And usually it is associated with the kind of teaching that Ephesians 2:8-10 presents us.
The grace of God saves us from the penalty of Hell. All have sinned and deserve Hell which is “the wages of sin”, i.e. death, separation from God for all of eternity in torment. And when we have seized it for ourselves through faith in Christ as the propitiation for our sins, it appeases the wrath of God against sin.
However, I want to draw your attention to another passage. You can look it up in your own Bible for the full text, but here I want to focus on specific issues in it. Titus 3:11-14 – “11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation … 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
This passage, while it refers to our rescue from the eternal torments of Hell, it focuses on our life here on the earth. His grace was lavished on us for more than just “fire insurance.” His grace was given to us to:
We learn more about the benefits of His grace from Ephesians 1:6-9, especially in verse 9 - “… Having made known unto us the mystery of his will …” That word “mystery” means a secret unknown to anyone else throughout the history of the world that is now revealed to a select few, the people initiated into the fellowship of believers. No prophet ever knew what is revealed to you who believe in the Lord Jesus. When God met with Moses on the fiery mountain to give him the Law, He didn’t let him in on the mysteries. God didn’t tell His secret to Abraham, “the friend of God.” David, “22 … a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will” wasn’t told the secret. YOU, believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, born again as a son of the living God, co-inheritor with Christ, to YOU He has made known the mystery of His will in His Word “according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:”
Do you know any of the secrets, the mysteries of Christ He has made known to you? The numerous mysteries involve you too. Romans 8:16-17 says, “16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ …”
