Will being religious get you to Heaven? There are 4 Greek words that are translated as either “religion” or “religious” in 7 verses in the King James Version of the Bible. None of the references are complimentary of either religion or being religious. Why do you think that is?
All religions have a set of doctrines about the nature, character, personality, etc. of a supreme being(s) or entity. These doctrines must be understood and believed.
Second, there is a recognition and acknowledgement that there is something that has separated humanity and the supreme entity and interferes with harmony between the two parties.
Third, there is a list of behaviors, successful compliance with which enables humanity to re-establish harmonious relations with the god/goddess or the plural thereof.
See, all religions are about what a human being does to reach God.
Religion is a matter of performance of deeds or what the Bible calls works.
“29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” John 6:29.
The Bible teaches a relationship with God not a religion about God. Jesus said, “3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” in John 17:3. King James Version Do you know God and the Lord Jesus? Do you have a personal relationship with them?
“27 But God chose what the world considers nonsense to put wise people to shame. God chose what the world considers weak to put what is strong to shame. 28 God chose what the world considers ordinary and what it despises--what it considers to be nothing--in order to destroy what it considers to be something. 29 As a result, no one can brag in God's presence. 30 You are partners with Christ Jesus because of God. Jesus has become our wisdom sent from God, our righteousness, our holiness, and our ransom from sin.31 As Scripture says, ‘Whoever brags must brag about what the Lord has done.’" 1 Corinthians 1:27-31, God’s Word for the Nations Translation
Do you know God and the Lord Jesus? Do you have a personal relationship with them? Religion is about what you have done. Have you been religious enough? What is enough?
Biblical Christianity, real Christianity is about what God has done for us in Christ. “29 … This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent.”
